Getting started
We are so pleased that you are part of the pilot for berp. This short guide will help you to get set up within minutes – and start reflecting!
Please note, if you have not yet signed up to take part in the berp pilot, please contact us to find out more and take part.
Step 1
berp is currently available through TestFlight.
1
You'll receive an email with a link to access berp.
2
Tap the link in the email. If you don't already have TestFlight installed, you'll be prompted to download it from the App Store.
3
Once TestFlight is installed, follow the link to install berp.
4
Open berp and you're ready to get set up and start reflecting.
Step 2
1
Tap Create an account.
2
berp will ask for your name, age band and role, and for your consent.
3
Choose Continue with Apple or Continue with email. We recommend Apple because there's no password to choose or remember. You just tap and you're in.
4
Recovery Phrases — you'll be given 12 words. Write them down somewhere safe or save them in your keychain or password manager alongside your berp login. If you forget your password, these 12 words are the only way back to your reflections. You will need all 12, and nobody can recover them for you.
Step 3
Four icons sit along the bottom, with a + in the middle. From left to right:

Home (house symbol): this is where you will find your recent reflections, streaks, and badges. This is also the page that automatically appears when you open the app.
Entries (bookmark symbol): this is where you will find everything you've written, easily searchable by reflection stage or title.
Purple circle (plus symbol): click this to start a new reflection.
Support (heart symbol): this is where you can access free and independent mental health support resources and helplines.
Account (person symbol): this is where you find your details and settings. You can set the option in here for a daily reminder to reflect. You can also export your reflections from this section – and send us your feedback.
Step 4
Tap the + button and start writing. It can be as short or as long as you like.
If you'd rather talk than type, tap the voice note button and hold it down while you speak. You can also dictate (voice to text) using the microphone button on the keyboard. Along the bottom, you'll find icons for prompts, voice notes, entry journal and an arrow to take you to the next screen.
berp opens at Experience and moves through four stages:
1
Experience: what happened, and what you thought and felt
2
Exploration: what's behind those thoughts and feelings
3
Sense-making: what this means for you
4
Implementation: how you'll take it forward
You don't have to do them all at once. Most people write Experience in the moment and come back to the rest later. You'll then reach your reflection's summary, where you can give it a name, open any stage to keep writing, or delete it.
We hope you love using berp as much as we do!
